I stand outside Gamestop at Union Square in New York City on Wednesday afternoon, with a lot of rolling cars and people who continue in the spring sun. At the corner of E 14th Street and University Place, it is a line around the mass.
Tonight is the official launch of Nintendo Switch 2, and the people of the console were waiting for their arrival for years. Some leaflets and influencers one day received early, but for the rest of the world, tonight is the first opportunity to play. For many people in this line, this means that they are ready to wait a little longer.
By 7 pm, I spoke to many people in the waiting list, and the overwhelming feeling is that everyone is excited about him Mario Cart World.
“It was forever since the last one,” Kyle and Andrea told me. “It is just logically getting it now. Maybe so.”
The latest version, Mario Map 8It was first launched in 2014 for Wii U, and eventually became at the end Mario Cart 8 Deluxe When it was launched on the Nintendo key. Mario Cart World It is the first new version of the new control unit in a decade, and the fans are keen to start playing.
Chris was waiting for the queue for about four hours and brought his own chair. He told me that his friends were working throughout the day, so he tries to keep them in a place.
“It is difficult to get this. I don’t have much to do today, so I will see whether I can save a place in their line.”
Finally, I find one fan telling me that he is excited to switch 2 because of his strength. “I had the switch and then the OLED key, and I am frankly widespread to run this thing in 4K 60 frames per second. It’s a big leap,” says Anthony.
Inside the store, employees have been working for 11 am, when customers before treatment make the night launch smoothly. They take four people simultaneously from the line outside, check them with keyboards and accessories, and hand them a ticket with a number to return and demand later. There is still a few hours to go, so most people go on the street for dinner or drinks.
For accuracy over the patient’s customers, Gamestop created different stations. There is a painter in the body that gives people the paint coating under the title Nintendo, a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Preparation, and of course, Mario Map. Children surround the stations while their parents check the store, and the DJ store lined up to keep people enjoying.
Gamestop has completely prepared the store Mario-Jewelry. There are strains of complete cardboard from various characters that spread throughout, and map Mario Cart World In the ground. It is clear that the retail seller knew this would be a huge absolute, and the store has gone out to help the fans celebrate.
Around 9 pm, Doug Boser, CEO of American company Nintendo, shows a surprise. Bowser speaks with customers and a possible conversation in advance with Gamestop employees on the camera that is likely to appear in the LinkedIn post, then move to the mural on the wall to get a picture with the employees.
Bowser asked what he was enthusiastic about, as he exploded quickly Mario Map. It is expected at this stage – the topic of the night.
People begin to integrate again into the line at 11 pm, and they now extend the bottom of the mass and the brackets or lower. Earlier in the night, Gamsop employees delivered cloud tickets to free games, and start calling the numbers to the winners. If you win, you are winning a copy of Splatoon 3The game is not currently updated to take advantage of the super -devices from Switch 2.
At 11:55 pm, I go inside, along with the first two agents waiting for midnight version. DAWN is the first to receive its 2 key after waiting outside this Gamestop since 4:17 am.
“I can’t really believe that I was waiting for this long time, but it was worth it.” Everyone is chanting and the line begins to flow faster. Crowds of people who have not previously paid against the appearance and consensus unit continue. Maybe they will be here until the morning.
I left the store about 30 minutes later, and I wonder about the number of stories that will take the success of the console. But if this store is anything that goes through, the Nintendo Switch 2 is already a success.
