Re: “The Trump Administration Restores Dementia Research, which it eternates as part of its Dei Purge“ As a scientist from a clinician dedicated to the understanding of the roots of dementia, I have long believed that science, honesty and compassion must guide our work. These values were recently placed on the test. After years of progress within a federal grant exploring the vascular contributions to the cognitive decline, Our work was interrupted and nearly completely derailedS What followed was a difficult, monthly appeal process that required legal and financial cooperation to deal with the misconception of our research, many of which are rooted in incorrectly applied diversity, justice and inclusion. It was a painful reminder of how easily vital work could be endangered by bureaucracy. Additional failures, including the heartbreaking loss of 50 participants in the study in one month, deepened our team’s fee. But we are stubborn not only for ourselves, but also for the millions of families affected by dementia. The community I work with and the participants who continue to believe in our mission have my gratitude. With the recruitment of staff again in September, our commitment to transparency and progress remains unwavering. This experience has only strengthened my belief that research should be protected – because behind every point of data is human history and hope is hopefully.
