YouTube tightens its policies on the content of gambling. The platform announced Creators will be prevented from verbally signal to gambling services that have not been approved by Google, as well as displaying their slogans and linking them in videos.
The new rules, which enter into force on March 19, may put lifetime restrictions on videos on online gambling. This means that viewers under the age of 18, or anyone who has not been recorded in YouTube, will not be able to watch these videos. YouTube says this base excludes videos that display sports online and people who personally throw gambling.
YouTube also notes that it may remove the content “promising guaranteed returns”, whether or not the gambling service is approved. “We know that this update may affect creators who focus on the content of gambling online such as casino games and applications, but we believe that these changes are a necessary step in protecting our society, especially younger viewers,” says YouTube in the ad.
