Samsung’s latest foldable devices are here. At Galaxy Unpacked, the company announced the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. All three devices will be available on August 7, but you can pre-order them now starting at $1,199.99, $1,899.99, and $2,099.99, respectively.

You may have noticed that Samsung’s foldable lineup looks a little different this year. Instead of just updating Galaxy Z Fold 7Samsung now has two book-shaped foldable devices: the productivity-focused Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the shorter, wider (when folded) Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is more entertainment-oriented. Unlike the larger, productivity-focused Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the Z Fold 8 is designed more for entertainment, with a wider, shorter design that looks like a small tablet when unfolded. The 4:3 internal screen is better suited for reading and gaming than previous Fold models. It also shares many of the Ultra’s core features, including Samsung’s new Flex Titanium display technology so creases are less noticeable, a bright 120Hz OLED display, and the Galaxy’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. Samsung has also upgraded the Fold 7’s 4,400 mAh battery to a larger 4,800 mAh silicon-carbon cell, though it’s ditching the telephoto lens found on both the Fold 7 and Fold 8 Ultra in favor of a dual-camera system.

Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 features a clamshell design with a 6.9-inch OLED main display and a 4.1-inch OLED cover display that lets you check notifications, respond to messages, and access apps without opening the phone. It also retains a 50MP main camera paired with a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 4,300mAh battery.

The biggest changes are that it’s thinner, lighter, and now runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor for the Galaxy. Samsung has also made the Cover Display more capable. Now you can access notifications, quick settings, and the full app drawer with simple swipe gestures. You also no longer need Samsung’s Good Lock app to launch apps from the external display.
