Stellantis is using Mobileye for hands-free driving assistance

Stellantis will use Intel Mobileye technology to power Level 2 hands-free driving features for its vehicle brands, the two companies announced Tuesday.

Starting in 2027, Stellantis will begin using Mobileye’s EyeQ system on a chip The data crowdsourcing software is called Road Experience Managementor REM, which uses real-time data from Mobileye-equipped vehicles to create a 3D global map. This technology will enable “hands- and eyes-free driving and intelligent lane keeping on unmarked roads in specific areas and conditions,” Mobileye said. Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen and others, did not immediately specify which brands would get the Mobileye systems.

Automakers are racing to add more advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to their cars, which can sometimes improve safety but are mostly seen as a convenience feature for highway driving. The technology is seen as a precursor to more automated driving, but it’s also a potential cash cow, helping to increase subscriptions and software revenue. Estimates predict higher ADAS revenues 90 billion dollars over the next decade.

Stellantis already offers a feature called Hands-Free Active Driving Assist in some Jeep and Ram models, but the company hasn’t been as aggressive in pushing the technology as rivals like Ford and GM. Last year, it introduced a new “no hands, no eyes closed” system. It’s called STLA AutoDrive For drivers who want to regain “precious time” while stuck in stopped traffic. This system is being developed in partnership with the UK-based self-driving company Wayve, and is expected to be launched in 2028.

Mobileye said the addition of Stellantis means the Jerusalem-based company now supplies “five of the world’s top ten automakers that contribute data to REM.” Mobileye reports that REM covers more than 95 percent of public roads in the U.S. and Europe, pulling data from more than eight million vehicles that logged a combined 34 billion miles last year. The company reported revenue of $558 million in the first quarter of 2026 — an increase of 27 percent year over year.
