It’s a somewhat reminiscent feature Nothing’s Ear 3 was introduced last September. These earbuds come with a wireless charging case with upgraded microphones that can be used for phone calls or recording voice notes and memos on Nothing’s mobile app, but the Ear 3A takes a different approach.
The new earbuds still come with a case, but it’s only used for storage and charging, which increases playback times from up to 10 to 42 hours, or up to 25 in total when using ANC. The only microphones are on the earbuds themselves, which have been upgraded with 32MB of storage. Yes, that’s a megabyte, not a gigabyte.
The added memory allows the earbuds to record what you’re listening to. By pressing both buds, you can activate a new feature called Audio Snapshot which records what’s playing as well as a little pre-playing so you don’t miss anything. These recordings are automatically synced to the Nothing The company notes in a statement today that the new feature is “intended for personal, non-commercial use only,” so there may not be any limits to what you can capture.
The Ear 3A can also record phone calls using a different gesture, but due to limited storage space, these recordings are limited to about two hours. As with audio clips, they can be easily accessed once you sync them with the mobile app afterwards.
Other upgrades to the Ear 3A include new 12mm drivers that deliver deeper bass, improved noise cancellation covering a wider frequency range, additional extra-small size ear tips, and a new pink color option alongside the black, white, and yellow versions that were previously available.
The launch of the Ear 3A is accompanied by the release of Nothing Phone 4Ba budget phone that is only released in the UK, Europe and India.
