Bentley has Name for the first time in full Electric car: Turkal. The British brand confirmed that today, along with a teaser image of the back of the electric car, and promised a full reveal on September 23, 2026. However, more important than the name is the fact that this is Bentley’s first ever fully electric car. Specifications are thin on the ground until the official reveal, but Bentley is willing to give away that this 5-meter-long SUV will have a range of more than 300 miles.
The word Torcal was already on the radar of Bentley spotters. Earlier this year, Trademark filings It showed that Bentley had registered both “Torkal” and “Barnato” in Europe and the UK, and had filed a lawsuit against cars including electric cars, charging cables and charging stations. Barnato, a reference to the obsessed Bentley driver and racing driver of the 1920s Wolf BarnatoHe was nominated as the first contestant. Bentley has gone the other way.
like Bentayga And other Bentley cars before it, and the name Turkal comes from a natural landmark, Turkal Antequera In Andalusia, Spain, a limestone landscape of stacked rock formations. It is fitting that Torcal also has auto connotations, as it is derived from Latin To distortwhich means twisting, and from here comes the word torque, which describes rotational force.
WIRED was invited to the secret unveiling of the Torcal, near Bentley’s UK headquarters. While a lot of the information distributed that day can’t be shared yet, I can say that this new electric SUV is similar to the Bentayga, as the lineage between the two is clear. The Torcal is slightly smaller, with a distinctive long hood and upright fascia. The familiar Bentley rear sweep over the wheel arches is also featured, but perhaps not as well resolved as in the Bentayga.
Still, it’s an attractive, powerful and purposeful-looking SUV, with a convertible glass sunroof and new lighting clusters. You can see how different the taillights are from the Bentayga in the interesting photo, where they go from the familiar oval shape to a clean line. However, unlike the Bentayga, the roofline at the rear drops down, something that is now becoming common. Electric vehicle Design because it means less drag and increases range.
Up front, perhaps the Torcal’s most striking visual element is the new grille: the radiator vent is replaced by a solid wall of illuminated crystals with a design seemingly influenced by the face of the Continental T. It’s a bold, deliberately subtle touch, and a far cry from a move towards Quiet luxury.
Once inside, thanks to the extensive power doors, it’s pleasing to see that Bentley’s designers have gotten the message about switchgear. Important function buttons are integrated with OLED displays. The center screen pleasingly curves downward in a similar way to that of a display New Cayenne. Interestingly, Bentley hasn’t followed other high-end manufacturers in offering a separate screen for passengers, and I’m sure there won’t be an option for that.
Bentley Chairman and CEO, Frank Steven Walliser, describes the Turkal as “the most remarkable car” in Bentley’s history, and it should be. Whatever the final specifications of the electric car, it may arrive at the worst moment yet to sell a premium electric car.
Lamborghini The Lanzador Electric GT has been discontinued This year after concluding, in the words of CEO Stefan Winkelmann, that demand among buyers “is heading to almost zero, if not zero.” Ferrari’s first electric car, los, Billions wiped out The company’s market capitalization within hours of its unveiling in Rome, and Ferrari has now postponed its second electric model to 2028.
