Access to its most advanced AI models, Claude Mythos 5 and Claude Fable 5, will be restored globally on Wednesday, with US government approval, Anthropic announced late Tuesday night.
Anthropy was repeated In her statement Fable 5 has industry-leading cybersecurity safeguards. It also calls for consistent standards for evaluating models and proposes a single framework as part of cybersecurity Glasswing Project.
In June Anthropy Myth busted 5the first of its Mythos-level models to be made available to the public. It was only available for a week before the government issued an export control order, ordering Anthropic to deny access to any foreign national. The only way to comply is, Anthropic said Pull the form for everyone.
“Although we have reached a constructive solution, these events have made clear that the industry needs a consistent way to evaluate and fix potential jailbreaks for AI models,” the company said. “A common standard…would help AI developers triage new findings as they emerge, launch highly capable models with greater security, and continually communicate the level of risk to government and industry partners.”
As of 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, CNET could not independently confirm the availability of Fable 5. The model will likely be accessed throughout the day. You can use the new Sonnet 5 model, which was also released on Tuesday.
We have received notification that the Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5.
We’ll start restoring access tomorrow, and will share an update soon.
We are grateful to our users for their patience, and to everyone who worked with us on…

Anthropic said it is working to restore access to AWS, Microsoft Foundry and Google Cloud “as quickly as possible.” Subscribers to the Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans will be able to use Fable 5 on missions that use up to 50% of their weekly usage limits (tokens) until July 7, after which Fable will cost additional to use with usage credits. Mythos 5 will only be available to select US companies as part of the Glasswing project.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, whose office oversees the AI and Innovation Standards Regulatory Center, He said on X: “Over the past two weeks, we have worked closely with Anthropic to analyze and approve Fable 5 to ensure alignment across the US government and advance America’s leadership in AI.”
The relationship between the Trump administration and Anthropics has been tense this year. The government announced Anthropic on supply chain risks this spring after an artificial intelligence company The Pentagon’s request was denied This would allow Claude AI will be used for all lawful military purposes.
Until the past few months, the administration had taken a hands-off approach to regulating AI. Now, especially in light of interventions aimed at preventing leading models from being released to the public, it has changed its position dramatically. An executive order signed June 2 requires the Department of Defense to work with AI companies to have the government review and approve all new border models before they are widely released. Fable and Mythos were banned under a different legal authority, but showed a similar desire to gain government approval to make more capable AI models available to the public.
