Omni’s slogan is “From solids to fabric. Print it all.” xTool says the ability to print anything is made possible thanks to its “innovative, flexible dual-print head architecture.” Manufacturers will be able to configure the system for duplex UV printing to unlock advanced multi-layer effects using specialist neon ink, or choose a mixed UV and fabric setup to give you as many material options as possible.
The O1 Omni printer is available in three configurations. There’s the entry-level UV version: pre-order $1,699 (retail price $2,499), the dual-head UV version enhanced with impact for specialty neon ink: pre-order $2,699 (retail price $3,299) and the ultimate cross-category hybrid UV and canvas version for printing directly to cotton or on film: pre-order $2,799 (retail price $3,499).
The possibilities are pretty much endless as the Omni stands in its own lane. It integrates UV (printing on hard surfaces), DTG (direct to fabric printing), DTF (flat image printing on plastic transfers) and UV DTF (relief image printing on plastic transfers) technologies.
This means you can print intricate designs on fabric, wood, acrylic, glass, metal, and more. xTool says the Omni can print on “almost any surface imaginable,” or at least any surface that can fit inside the device.
CNET’s 3D printing expert James Bricknell I got to spend some time with Omni at CES In January he had this to say:
