50% off the best fake Christmas trees on the market for Prime Day (2026)

last november, WIRED Reviews Team Convened Blind judge competition for fake Christmas trees We had three interior designers pick the best look from 10 popular pines (and spruces).

The overall winner was no surprise to anyone who follows these things: Balsam Hill’s Vermont White Spruce. Balsam Hill also finished fourth and won the fastest rally.

Some premium brands live up to their billing, and make products that are truly great enough to be worth the price. Balsam Hill is one of those brands.

As we wrote in that piece:

“Balm Hill trees are popular among fake Christmas tree enthusiasts for their ability to mimic the look and feel of fresh-cut evergreen trees. The company has been around since 2006 and is often found at the top of lists of the best artificial trees. We found the brand to shine brightly in blind competition, without relying on reputation.”

We’re six months away from reasonable people wanting a Christmas tree in their living room, which may be why the brand is clearing out old stock with a massive sale on Amazon. You can save 50 percent on lots of trees, including getting the entry-level 5.5-foot Balsam Hill pre-lit version Classic blue spruce for $300 and 7.5 ft. Unlit Balsam Fir for $569 (The lit version ranked fourth in our testing.)

I took the 7.5-foot Balsam Hill tree home for a long-term test after our competition, and I can attest to the fact that it was easier to put together than any fake tree I’ve ever owned, despite it being the largest, and it got compliments all season long. It’s a product I would buy with my own money without hesitation. The only issues I have are that it’s too big and heavy (very good build quality), and it’s so large that I’ve almost run out of ornaments (I’ve been collecting them for vacations since I was in elementary school).

If you don’t mind moving your new purchase into the attic and not thinking about it for six months, you can save big by buying now.
