Your regular Slack bot — an automated assistant that you can tag in a Slack conversation — works like this: You tag the bot. He responds. That’s it. AI company Anthropic, which owns the chatbot and AI assistant Claudewants to deepen Slack conversations with a new feature called Claude Tag. The idea is that Cloud can now build context by drawing on relevant information from Slack channels in a way that wasn’t possible before.
Anthropic declared in a press release on Tuesday that it will rename the current Claude app in Slack to Claude Tag on August 3.
When you add Claude Tag to your Slack workspace, he joins as his own user. You can give it access to selected channels and connect it to any tools, data, and even codebases you want to access.
When flagged, Claude will complete the task in stages before posting a response in a Slack thread.
Anyone in a Slack workspace or Claude organization can use a Claude Tag, but if you have a Claude Enterprise plan, you can grant or restrict access to the Claude Tag based on roles.
Cloud Tag can work on tasks while you focus on other priorities.
Unlike other Slack bots, Claude Tag will learn everything from the public Slack channels it has access to. He can continue the conversation where the last person who tagged it left off.
With Ambient Behavior enabled, Claude Tag can remind users of tasks or discussion threads across Slack channels. He can also schedule future tasks for himself and work on these projects.
Claude can send a proactive message to a topic that has not yet been resolved.
You can chat with Claude Tag in a direct private message, or open the right panel to reach him at any time. In both the board and direct messages, Claude Tag can do everything you’ve enabled it to do, including searching the web.
Prices and privacy
The feature is already available in beta for companies on Claude’s Team and Enterprise plans.
When you tag Claude in a direct message, its use is billed to your Claude account. If you tag it in a channel, an invoice will be sent to your organization.
Owners or primary owners can control Claude Tag usage, as app limits are based on consumption and not the number of users. Once the spending limit is reached, Claude Tagge begins to refuse work.
An Anthropic representative did not immediately respond to a request for pricing information.
Cloud Tag remembers channel history, but company administrators can review what has been kept and deleted. Slack conversations with Claude Tag each organization’s Slack retention policies, and these conversations are separate from your Claude history.
If you disconnect Claude Tag from Slack, your conversations will be deleted after 30 days.
