My favorite artistic TV is half off for Amazon Prime Day

Just last week, The WIRED Reviews team has published our comprehensive guide to… The best artistic TVsa piece I had been anticipating for a long time. You probably know that art TVs are screens that display works of art when not in use. It has a matte finish and a frame that mimics the frame in which artwork is hung on the wall.

My own contribution to our guide was the Hisense S7 CanvasTV. I love this thing. As for Prime Day, the S7 is currently less than half its list price, and $100 less than the lowest price we’ve ever tracked.

I have the 50 inch size, which is perfect for my bedroom wall. The picture quality doesn’t rival high-performance monitors, but that’s not really the point. Not everyone cares about the insanely high refresh rate, deep blacks, and extreme sharpness. Some people — a lot of people — just want a TV that plays a game or streams YouTube and doesn’t look stupid in their room. But you can’t beat the current price.

Samsung Frame was the first major player in the category, and remains the most well-known name, but there are now a number of competitors, including TCL and Amazon’s Ember Artlite. But I’m still quite partial to the Hisense CanvasTV line. If you’re looking for a discreet second or third screen for somewhere in your home, you can’t beat this price. Also keep in mind that you get a free bezel(s) with that, which you’ll have to drop another $150 for with Samsung.

Although it’s heavy enough that you’ll have to have two people to mount it, you can mount this CanvasTV to the wall using the one-piece mounting bracket within an hour. It connects seamlessly to your Google account, where you can drag images, or you can choose from 1,000 pieces of art without paying for a subscription. I really like Hisense TVs, in general, because they have intuitive controls housed in a brushed nickel remote and a built-in Google TV OS.
