Your perfection In an above ground pool, I can attest that cleaning up leaves, bugs and other debris is a daily chore if the cover is closed. I put up with that since my pool is only used seasonally, but WIRED reviewer Chris Knoll has an indoor pool that he uses year-round, so he doesn’t have time for crap like nets, brushes, and manual vacuums. Our favorite pool robot

WIRED reviewer Chris Knoll tested this top-of-the-line model with up to six hours of battery life and found that it did an excellent job of improving pool floors and walls and picking up debris at the waterline with AI-powered debris detection. They also float when finished, so they are easier to catch rather than having to fish from the bottom. The only downside is the fact that it’s a bit heavy and unwieldy, but that’s not surprising given all the features on board.

“Punches at a premium”

This device has less battery life than the AquaSense 2 Ultra and cannot scan the surface, but it has the same floating ability to avoid underwater retrieval. The best skimmer we’ve tested

Our top pick, the AquaSense 2 Ultra, can also clear your pool. However, if you already have a pool robot or system you like and are just looking for a skimmer-only one, this is what WIRED reviewer Chris Knoll recommends. The solar-powered iSkim Ultra has front-mounted sensors that prevent it from hitting tiles, although with a debris bin release button on the front, it will occasionally eject if it hits something. However, that was our only complaint about this well-designed device.

The most luxurious member of the new Beatbot Sora lineup, the Sora 70 is the only member of the trio to include a surface scraping feature, allowing it to do double duty on the pool floor and topside. All the other features of the Sora line are there as well, including an easy charging system, smart app-based control, and parking for when the robot’s job is done, making it easy to retrieve.
