JJ Spawn will be looking to pull off another upset win this weekend as he aims to make it back-to-back victories at the US Open. Since Spawn’s upset win at Oakmont 12 months ago, the Los Angeles-born star has played in the Ryder Cup and won the 2026 Valero Texas Open. However, he remains an outside bet to defend the title despite his strong recent performances.

Unsurprisingly, current number one Scottie Scheffler comes into this weekend’s action as the bookies’ favorite, followed by Masters champion Rory McIlroy.

How to watch the 2026 US Open online from anywhere with a VPN

If you’re traveling abroad and want to catch all the golf action while away from home, a VPN can help boost your privacy and security when streaming.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your ISP from throttling your speeds. Additionally, it can come in handy when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, providing an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the United States and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies that restrict the use of a VPN to access region-specific content. If you’re considering using a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow your service provider’s installation instructions to ensure you are connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so checking if your streaming subscription allows the use of a VPN is crucial.

Quick tips to stream the 2026 US Open using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — ISP, browser, video streaming provider, and VPN — your experience and success when streaming may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as ExpressVPN’s default option, try using the “Search for a city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the tournament after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing region, there are a couple of things you can try for a quick fix. First, sign in to your streaming service’s subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is one in the correct viewing region. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install a VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device connected to its Wi-Fi network will now appear in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing a VPN on your router. In some cases with Smart TV Services, after installing a cable network’s sports app, you will be asked to verify a digital code or click on a link sent to your email address on file for your Smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will help too, as both devices will appear in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often reveal location despite using a VPN, so make sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to sign in to your services. We usually recommend brave.
