The FBI built a small city to simulate cyber attacks

Last year, the FBI opened a case Cyber ​​domain in Huntsville, Alabama, to simulate cyberattacks. Think of it kind of like a celebrity Hogan AlleyBut for training on modern digital crimes. It’s a massive 22,000-square-foot replica of an entire city, complete with a convenience store, gas station, hospital, and even fully furnished homes.

It is a training facility where the office can recreate real-world scenarios for training and research purposes. All the different buildings and facilities are connected the way they would be in a real city. There is also a small data center with over 200 servers that can be hacked, infected with malware and studied. But most importantly, all systems in the fake city are isolated from the outside world, meaning there is no risk of any malicious code or anything escaping containment.

Students train to conduct forensic investigations on automobile entertainment systems, hospital computer networks, and corporate security systems. They can see how different cyber attacks can affect power grids or spread through home networks.

While the facility opened last year, the FBI has only shared a file video this week, to give the public their first look inside.
