Lavazza’s new Keurig-style coffee maker uses pods made entirely from coffee

Back in 2024, he brought us Keurig Glance An exciting innovation: the chamber of the push-button machine is made from coffee by-products and is completely plastic-free. The greenest Keurig system hasn’t hit the market yet, but Italian coffee giant Lavazza launched its sustainable, plastic-free coffee system this week. The company officially launched Prove In the North American market, it is a powerful coffee tablet that the 130-year-old brand debuted in Italy and calls its most ambitious product innovation to date.

Unlike K cups And most others Individual service formatsTympanic capsules – or “tablets” – contain neither a capsule, nor an individual shell nor a coating. Just pure cold pressed coffee; It is dosed, ground and tamped into a solid form ready for fermentation.

The technology behind the Tab is the result of five years of research and development and more than 15 patents. The concave shape allows the coffee to expand during the brewing process, producing what Lavazza calls “crema plus” – the continuous, velvety layer of foam associated with properly drawn espresso. The machine used to prepare these all-natural pods, designed in Italy, requires no preparation, grinding or measuring from the user.

The launch is a pivot to Lavazza’s accelerated growth in North America.

“The United States is one of the most dynamic markets in the world,” Daniel Foti, Lavazza’s vice president of marketing for North America, said in a press release sent to CNET. “This is our biggest bet in this market to date, and we intend to shape what comes next.”
