There’s nothing worse than going to dinner with a large group of friends, choosing not to drink to save money, but then still having to pay for your friends’ espresso martinis when the group decides to split the bill equally. You don’t want to come cheap and Have everyone wait while you recalculate the bill. Now, Apple has a solution for this, which it revealed on Worldwide Developers Conference 2026.
With the new feature, you can point your iPhone camera at the receipt. Then, putting Siri in the Camera app will make each item identifiable so you can track who got each item, and send people separate Apple Cash payment requests depending on what they’ve already ordered. Ideally, this feature should make splitting a bill a less difficult and lengthy experience.
“If you’re having a meal with friends and point your iPhone at the bill,[you can]select what you ordered to split the tab using Apple Cash,” Apple vice president of software Sebastien Marineau-Mes said during Apple’s presentation.
This type of bill splitting was already available with apps like SplitWise or Tab, but realistically, those products haven’t been that popular (at least in my experience; no one has ever offered to use one of these tools). Since Apple’s payment features are built into the architecture of native apps like iMessage, it’s only natural to send someone a payment request through an app they don’t have to work hard to download.
You can also use another similar Siri mide feature in your camera while eating dinner — instead of pointing your camera at the bill, you can use it to see estimated nutrition information about the food you’re eating.
