Make your new Roku home screen work better “for you” with these easy tricks

Roku has upgraded Home screen on their devices For the first time in 10 years with a new section for you and a great big announcement. But if you don’t like the changes, the great thing is that you can make your TV or tablet work more or less as it did before. It only takes a few minutes.

While Roku’s changes have been really good for upping content when you don’t know what you want to watch, they’re not as useful when you want to watch a specific show. For example, when I sit down to watch He fallsMaybe I forget which service this demo runs on.

The Roku didn’t help me much with picking up where I left off before, but I was excited to be able to see all the shows I was in the middle of. And this is all thanks to the new Continue watching to divide. Unfortunately, New for You cannot incorporate this information (yet), although I hope it will in the future. But there are still things you can change that will make a meaningful difference.

I’ll preface this next section by saying that I’m starting with something new Ultra yearwhich I then logged in to, but it didn’t seem to retrieve any of the data I saw on the device. I love science fiction and comedy. What I received were seemingly random suggestions for religious films and Taylor Sheridan. Something was wrong.

If you’re in the same boat and find that “yours” isn’t helpful at all, you have two options: Remove individual suggestions or Remove the entire partition completely.

Remove individual offers from For You.

Highlighting a show in For You lets you tell Roku if you like the show or not.

To remove individual suggestions:

  • Go to Display thumbnail Don’t want to Press the * (asterisk) button. on the remote control.
  • Scroll down and select I don’t like this show/movie. You can also choose to like or save if you want to keep it.

That’s it! The algorithm then learns that you don’t want that content. However, telling Roku you don’t like something doesn’t immediately delete the shortcut. The only way I’ve found to do this so far is to restart the device. Either way, the next time you open your home screen, it should be populated with new suggestions.

Be aware that sometimes the offer is not removable at all, you can only choose Add to save list. So far, I’ve only seen this happen with… Savannah bananaHowever, who doesn’t love them? The shortcut also disappeared the next day.

Remove the For You section.

Maybe you don’t want to keep up with what’s new Marshals View, and you’ll be glad your content was found. You can remove the For You section completely, which is very easy.

  • Go to Settings From the menu on the left side of the screen.
  • He chooses Home screen From the list.
  • Scroll to Rows of recommendations.
  • He chooses Hides (or displays If you want to switch).

Add Continue Watching to Quick Access

Go to Roku home page section

The Go To section on the home page gives you the shortcut to continue watching.

Adding a Continue Watching shortcut to your home screen doesn’t automatically display it, but doing so will help you navigate through dozens of unnecessary thumbnails and give your quick access some extra purpose.

To add a continue watching shortcut:

  • Scroll all the way to the bottom of the home page until you reach Go to Shortcuts to divide.
  • Go to Continue watching the tiles.
  • Click on * (asterisk) button on the remote control.
  • He chooses Add to quick access.

The box will now appear in the Quick Access section at the bottom of the page and may save you some time selecting the show you want to continue watching without searching for it. However, I noticed while compiling this article that the shortcut disappeared from my Quick Access and I had to add it again.

Remove quick access

Finally, if you don’t want any of the new discovery boxes to appear at all and just want them to look the same, you can do this.

Here’s how to remove Quick Access too: Settings > Home screen > Quick access > displays or Hides.

That’s it. Now you have a clean-looking homepage ready for your next streaming marathon.
