Welcome to Night Vale host Cecil Baldwin, who shares his peeve over his tech pets


Cecil Baldwin’s resume includes appearances in Gravity fallsnarrates the documentary Scream, queen! My Nightmare on Elm StreetRand performing as part of the New-Futurists Theater Company in New York. But he is best known as a podcast host Welcome to Night Valleya long-running fantasy show that blends Lovecraftian apocalyptic horror with absurdist comedy. As Cecil Palmer, the voice of Night Vale Community Radio, Baldwin keeps the residents of the titular town up to date on what’s going on with the faceless old woman secretly living in your house and offers advice on how best to maintain their bloodstone circuits.

He also hosts Random Number Generator – Horror Podcast #9 Jeffrey Cranor, co-creator of Night Vale, recently directed the play As Sylvia It raises awareness of LGBTQ+ and HIV issues. In short – he’s a busy man. So we’re excited that he found some time to tell us about his tech pet peeves.

What is the one thing you wish you could change about your phone?

I wish it was impossible manually Text and drive vehicle at the same time. We are collectively much worse off than we think.

What is your happy place on the Internet?

Add books to my Favorite list on Amazon, so I remember the titles/authors, then take that list to my local new and/or used book store and buy it there.

What’s a tech trend you wish would go away?

Please, I beg you, let me watch the credits of a movie or TV show in peace. I’ve just finished a movie, I don’t need to switch to a whole new one. Let me digest for just a second.

What creation are you most proud of?

A must have podcast Welcome to Night Valleyright? It was the acting role that changed the course of my life.

What do you do when you feel stuck?

I would literally tell myself “1, 2, 3, 4, 5…. stay away”. It’s like disengaging, speaking up when I don’t know how to move forward with a project or when I’m stuck in a social media scrolling frenzy that gives me no joy. Set it aside. Stay away. Focus on something else for a while.

What’s the last piece of physical media you purchased?

I picked up some albums from my local record store: Marianne Faithfull On television 1965-1967Jorge Ben Jor george ben“And Dr. John Grey-gray.

What will your resume slogan be?

Performing authenticity…real.
