But the Tello’s response time was noticeably higher overall, not enough to impact Royal Match play, but you may have higher requirements. Download speeds were also lower for Tello on any given site, but not by much.
At home, 5G cellular data speeds tend to run around 800 to 900 Mbps on T-Mobile. And with the Tello, it was about 30 percent slower. But both of these speeds are in the 5G region. It’s also faster at full size than you’ll ever need for 4K video. I had no problem streaming my usual dose of Josh Johnson comedy, if that’s what you’re wondering.
Oddly enough, upload speed was actually faster with the Motorola Razr using Tello than with my old iPhone using T-Mobile. After consulting with my colleague Julian Chocattowhich covered Advance phone For years, I’ve likely attributed this to improved modem performance by the newer Motorola, not a secret backdoor to faster uploads by Tello.
Only in areas with degraded reception or 4G reception did I start to see real lapses in the Tello’s performance. In the Portland suburbs near the forested northwest hills, Tello got fewer bars than T-Mobile, and data arrived at speeds slow enough to bother me. Some speed tests have timed out. Uploads also started to creep into lower reception areas compared to my T-Mobile phones, sometimes dropping to only a quarter of the speed of the T-Mobile network.
That means: Most of the time, Tello worked just like T-Mobile. Except for the stray moments where it didn’t happen. The moments where the Tello’s performance is noticeably worse are usually the moments when you’re asking to get the most out of your phone: clinging to a wayward reception bar, or streaming a video while riding a train.
Whether or not the trade-off is worth it depends on what type of phone user you are. Family discounts are better with larger providers. Frequent international travelers will also likely stick with the big boys. international Roaming will cost you With Tello, so do texts to and from most countries outside of Latin America and Europe. Traveling is also a time when you’re likely to use a lot of data outside of Wi-Fi networks.
The other big financial difference is how often you upgrade your phone. With Tello, you’re on your own when it comes to purchasing a device, while T-Mobile and other postpaid plans keep you stuck with their higher-priced plans by offering the latest and greatest smartphones at deep discounts.
