Intel’s first mobile gaming chip is the Arc G3, used by Acer

There’s a lot we don’t know about the chips, but Intel confirms today that the Panther Lake variant has fewer CPU cores than Intel’s Panther Lake laptop chips, but features a full set of Xe3 GPU cores for gaming. (Has 2 P cores, 8 E cores, and 4 LP E cores, plus up to 12 Xe3 graphics cores in total.)

It will appear in at least three mobile devices: Leaked MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plusthe just-announced OneXPlayer 3 coming in June, and the just-announced Acer Predator Atlas 8 — which may end up being from Acer Firstly His hand yet Acer Nitro Blaze 78, and Giant 11 went MIA.

The new Atlas 8 will come in at least two variants, one with an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor and Arc B390 graphics with 12 GPU Xe3 cores, and one with an Intel Arc G3 processor and Arc B370 with 10 Xe3 cores instead. Each is paired with 24GB of 7467MT/s LPDDR5x RAM, and is cooled by “the first metal fan in a handheld device” with 89 blades and 10 percent increased airflow compared to the competition.

The laptop will weigh around 810 grams (1.79 lbs) with a large 80 Wh battery, or 770 grams (1.7 lbs) with an above-average 60 Wh battery – and the higher-end model will presumably come with a larger battery, as competing laptops do.

The 8-inch screen looks above average, too. It is an IPS panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and an aspect ratio of 16:10, in a native horizontal arrangement, with a brightness of 500 nits and a variable refresh rate of 48-120 Hz, covered Gorilla Glass Diet With Corning’s DXC anti-glare coating with 100 percent sRGB coverage and 77 percent Adobe RGB coverage.

You won’t find a magnetic Hall effect or TMR joystick here, just those with carbon films that might eventually drift off, but it does have Hall effect triggers with adjustable stops, two back buttons, and a fingerprint sensor in the power button. It will come with Windows 11 and Xbox Mode on up to a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD of the full-length M.2 2280 array. Although we haven’t held it yet, the spec sheet shows that it’s about one inch (28.5mm) thick at its thinnest point and more than two inches (58.37mm) thick at the handles.

And because it’s an Intel platform, it comes with two Thunderbolt 4 ports (supporting 65W USB-C charging) and Intel Wi-Fi 7 flavour, as well as a microSD UHS-II card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The company hasn’t talked about battery life or price yet, but it plans to launch the Atlas 8 in October.
