There’s always a new variety of Oreo cookies on shelves, but this might be the most unusual yet. Oreo and Korean boy band BTS are collaborating on an upcoming Oreo release that features purple cookie chips and a special Korean brown sugar pie filling.
The brown sugar cream pie is inspired by hotteok, a filled pancake that is a popular Korean street food, and which, according to the press release, was the band’s favorite childhood snack.
The cookie features a bright purple chip, which is the first time an Oreo has used this color, and it comes with a lot of meanings. The purple color is a nod to the band and their popular fanbase, the BTS Army, for whom “I’m purple to you” means “I love you.”
To celebrate the band’s 13th anniversary, the Purple Foil features 13 embossed designs. Designs include BTS member names, messages to the BTS Army, The famous BTS stick The heart-finger gesture is of Korean origin and popularized by K-pop.
The new BTS Oreos have 13 embossed designs.
But if you want to enjoy this musical delight, you’ll need to plan ahead. With BTS’ huge fan base, these cookies will be a hot item.
The limited edition Oreo and BTS cookies will be available for pre-sale starting June 1 on OREO.com/UnwrapTheCollab. The cookies should start appearing in stores on June 8, but only for a limited time.
