Spotify now lets you “clip” moments from your favorite podcast

It’s easy to share your favorite moments from podcasts, with… introduction From Spotify’s new Podcast feature, launching on Wednesday.

In the app, a new scissor icon in the Now Playing view will allow you to clip a specific clip from the podcast you’re listening to, then share it more broadly with your social media audience, friends, colleagues, or anyone else.

When you trim, you’ll be able to trim the audio portion and preview it to hear it again before sharing it publicly. You’ll then click the Share button, which provides options for different ways you can share the podcast, including a link to the full episode, chapter, timestamp, or clip now.

For those in the tech industry, this addition is particularly timely, given that key tech and AI executives are now eschewing traditional media interviews to instead sit down with podcasters to expand their reach and, in some cases, avoid more difficult questions. That means there’s now a lot of breaking news on podcasts, and there’s not enough time to stream it all. This will make it easier for key parts of those longer interviews to find an audience.

Spotify also notes that it has seen traction with people saving longer segments of podcasts, called Chapters, since its launch earlier this year. Since then, chapters have been saved and added to playlists more than 2 million times per month.

Sharing clips can also help with marketing by highlighting particularly interesting parts, and encouraging users to listen to the full show to hear more.

Saved clips are stored in your Spotify library, allowing you to revisit them at any time or add them to one of your podcast playlists.

This feature is rolling out globally to free and premium Spotify users on mobile, with availability expanding to more shows over time.
