The James Bond franchise is nothing if not a spectacle: apart from the explosions and gunfights, even its quieter moments drip in the pomp and glamor of elite ostentation and luxurious settings. However, Bond has always been the strange mascot of the spy profession, usually operating in silence and shadows. with 007 first lightorigin story of Professional killer Developed by IO Interactive, this scene rivals any of Bond’s cinematic adventures. Over the course of 20 hours of gameplay, this stunning spectacle is punctuated by one of my favorite action games in years, a game full of exhilarating combat and a dizzying variety of missions.
The game begins with Bond, still just a British soldier, summoning his team to investigate unresponsive scientists working in the frozen wilderness of Iceland. The squad is shot down and only Bond survives. Unfortunately, the opening scene is very generic, but it does its job of setting up Bond’s future. Despite the unlikely odds, he succeeds, but not without killing several bad guys and blowing things up. This, along with his refusal to leave people to their fate, is what attracts the attention of M, the new head of the 00 Program who has been reinstated under MI6 (the UK’s foreign intelligence service). Bond joins a recruitment program and begins training under the irascible Greenway, who plays him The walking deadLennie James. To say more would spoil the fun plot, but the story explores everything from double agents to the rise of artificial intelligence and corporate control of humanity.
Don’t let his enlisted status fool you: this is James Bond. He is charming, funny, an incredible fighter, extremely intelligent, and surprisingly passionate and caring. There’s no doubt that a lot has been drawn from Daniel Craig’s role as a character, despite his having no connection to the films. Most importantly, you get to play Bond feel Incredible, because it is responsive, agile, and adaptable. In melee battles, he will not only punch and kick when you press the “Hit” button, but he will also headbutt enemies into walls and windows if they are nearby; He will grab breakable objects to destroy them on their heads; He will accuse them. First light It is powered by a Glacier engine, the same technology used in… Professional killer series, creates a highly realistic environment, with breakable objects and interiors; Leaves fly, smoke lingers, things spin and roll. Like Bond himself, the environment is incredibly responsive.
What really makes First light Work is a variety of tasks. We move from tracking down government employees in London’s underground nightclubs to a sprawling, multi-level Slovakian castle hosting a grand chess match to uncover a double agent. In keeping with Bond tradition, each mission escalates, often in unexpected ways. At one point, Bond engages in a car chase that ends with a plane being chased down and destroyed; Another mission involves navigating a pirate den in a fictional Mauritanian city, where you must raise $100,000 by participating in a range of illegal activities, from fistfights to gambling.
I should point out that the Pirate’s Den is where you meet Puma, played by Lenny Kravitz. It is strange that in some places he is promoted as the main antagonist, when he is not only that no The villain, not to mention the main villain, but also has a total screen time of about five minutes. However, it’s not a huge loss: Kravitz’s performance is terrible, and his American accent is jarring.
Even though it comes from the team that made it Professional killerI rarely had to dress up or trick my way into places – a frequent occurrence in… Professional killer This would also make a lot of sense for a spy game. Instead, Bond finds other ways, usually grates and sewers, to enter the spaces. I used disguise twice in my entire playthrough. Stealth is still your primary approach, but there’s no instant failure. Bond can quickly take on multiple enemies, but it felt “wrong” when she failed to stealth. If, like me, you choose to load a checkpoint to maintain your stealth streak, be prepared for strangely long loading times and extremely annoying checkpoints. I couldn’t tell if IO wanted me to focus on stealth, given the checkpoints before long, unskippable conversations or before extensive platforming sections.
Before each mission, as in the films, Bond is groomed by Q, the head of research at MI6 headquarters. Here, you can also talk with your colleagues, listen to conversations about your tasks, etc. He made MI6 not just a faceless entity, but alive with the people you knew. This becomes important for later developments which I’d rather not spoil. You can take up to three gadgets on each mission, from a laser watch to nausea darts. Every device is useful. Lock on the door? Laser. A guard blocking the entrance? Shoot him with arrows of nausea. Your choices directly affect how you are able to handle situations in the field. During missions, you will encounter several “opportunities” from which you can come back Professional killer. You might overhear a conversation about a reporter being late, then impersonate them to enter restricted areas; One time, I was able to steal an ID from a man because I heard his friend’s name.
First lightThe game’s variety kept me on my toes, never letting me guess where the game was going. The scenery and set pieces rival Uncharted, without once making me feel like a mere spectator. It’s not Professional killerA game similar to what I initially expected given its developer; Instead, it’s one of the best action games I’ve ever played, and one that builds on the elements that made Bond such an enduring character. And with the future of the film franchise up in the air, First light It comes at just the right time and is clearly in the right hands.
007 first light It will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox on May 27; A Switch 2 version is also in the works.
