The electric Ferrari Luce has finally arrived


We were Waiting for Ferrari Los for eight years.

That was in January 2018, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, previously Ferrari Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne first hinted at a ‘prancing horse’ Eve To compete with Tesla.

“If there was an electric supercar to be built, Ferrari would be the first.” Marchionne said. “People are amazed at what Tesla has done with a supercar: I’m not trying to downplay that ElonI did but I think it is doable by all of us.

Well, Ferrari wasn’t the first. But it certainly takes the prize for most anticipated electric car launch ever, thanks to the drip-feeding strategy of Elettrica’s “alias” prototype and launch last October. Powertrain detectionand then in February, Apple-esque Interior design by LoveFrom Led by Jony Ive and Marc Newson.

Today’s unveiling of the exterior in Rome by Ferrari ends the secrecy and completes the process. This is Luce (Italian for “light”), the most important thing Maranello has made in decades.

The numbers are appropriately high. Four motors, one for each wheel, have a total power of more than 1,000 horsepower in boost mode. The rear axle generates 832 horsepower and 7,750 Nm to the wheels. The front axle adds 282 hp and 3,400 Nm. Full power is available in less than a second. Zero to 62 mph is handled in 2.5 seconds, then on to a top speed of 192 mph. It’s actually a five-seat GT supercar in disguise (a first for Ferrari).

The 122-kilowatt-hour battery, one of the largest in any production electric vehicle, charges at up to 350 kilowatts on an 800-volt system. Ferrari claims this battery gives the Lucy a range of over 329 miles per charge. The all-wheel drive and steering system is inspired by the Purosangue SUV. Ferrari has confirmed that the car weighs 4,982 pounds, or 2,260 kg, which is only about 200 pounds more than the Purosangio, despite the impressive battery pack.
