Android 17 is getting its own version of Apple Handoff


Google is adding a new feature to Android that is similar to Apple deliveryallowing you to start a task on your Android phone and continue where you left off from a compatible tablet.

“Continue” is designed to be ultimately bi-directional, however Google says At launch, it will only support tasks that move from smartphone to tablet. Android tablet users will see a Continue Playing icon in the dock that suggests the most recently used app from their phone, assuming it’s also installed on the tablet.

It should allow Android users to directly open documents they were working on, or jump directly to the email they just opened. In some cases, it can open the tablet’s browser to the best page to continue a task on the web instead.

Google says the Continue Playing feature will be available for testing Android 17The RC1 release of the RC1 is the first of the release candidates, although a detailed arrival date has not yet been specified. He also did not say when tablet-to-mobile handovers would be supported.
