Google is back in the smart glasses game.
At Google I/O on TuesdayThe company has announced a new partnership with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to produce a new line of AI-powered glasses. The company says the devices will be designed to pair with Android and iOS devices and have been designed in collaboration with Samsung. The company said it will be available later this year.
Google calls the new devices “voice glasses,” where users will be able to issue verbal commands to them and get things done across its ecosystem of apps and services, including Gemini.

The user simply speaks into their glasses (a demo shared Tuesday involved a Googler ordering coffee online simply by speaking into the glasses), and the device complies when they sync.
Google has dabbled in smart glasses several times over the years. It was infamously launched google glass years ago, which eventually helped give rise to the derogatory term “glass holes.”
However, the smart glasses space has changed little since then. Recently, major corporations – most notably Meta – and a small army of startups and small businesses, have invested in this space.
