Artificial intelligence agents are everywhere. Every briefing I’ve attended for software companies over the past year has included some reference to this Agents– Using generative AI tools to automate digital tasks. Despite the breakthrough moments at the beginning of 2026, such as the brave ones OpenClaw agent that early adopters used to manage their lives online, most people have yet to embrace this style of automation day to day. This won’t last long if Google achieves its goal.
in Google I/Othe tech giant shared its vision to make its popular search engine a primary way to introduce billions of existing users to the company’s proxy prowess.
“You’ll be able to create, customize and manage multiple AI agents for your many tasks, right in the search,” says Liz Read, who leads the research. Google. She gives the example of setting up an agent to track stock market trends and send you alerts using real-time data – when specific conditions are met.
Along with the upcoming agent additions to Search, Google also announced a new base model, Gemini 3.5 Flash, as the global default model for artificial intelligence mode answers, In addition to improvements to the search box that make it more responsive to user input.
One of the key agent experiments being rolled out is a new form of dynamic data collection through “information agents” that can be more proactive than previous search experiments and automate alerts through your chat requests.
“Ask Google to keep you updated on anything, and now our agents can do the work for you even if you don’t use Google,” says Robbie Stein, vice president of search product. “So, you could be asleep, and it would still help you.” This feature will first arrive to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra plans This summer.
In Google’s example of how these things work, a user asks AI mode through the Google app to keep him “updated when any of my favorite athletes announce a sneaker collaboration or drop a signature.” Next, AI mode creates a unique information agent for this user, designed to monitor the request. When a new shoe drops that fits these criteria, e.g Aja Wilson Pink Nikesthe user gets an informational alert that includes important context and ways to purchase sneaks.
Booking agents are another style of search automation that Google will be expanding this summer. At previous I/O conferences, Google debuted similar AI features, such as the now-defunct one DuplexWhich contacts companies on your behalf to schedule restaurant or salon reservations. Google continues to iterate on this basic idea with agents who can search for relevant context on local businesses, even calling that barber down the street to get a quote for a beard cut if it doesn’t appear on the website, to help users gather information with less active engagement.
