After about two hours of deliberation, the jury reached a unanimous verdict Musk v. Altmanthis year’s technical experience. The group found that two lawsuits had been time-barred, and a third lawsuit had failed thanks to the rejection of one of them.
The jury here is an advisory jury, meaning the group is formed solely to provide another opinion to the judge, and its verdict is not technically legally binding. Ultimately, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers became the ultimate legal authority, and she accepted the decision.
Musk v. Altman OpenAI took over a federal courthouse in Oakland for three weeks, with the primary accusation being that OpenAI had deviated from its founding mission and that Musk’s money was intended for a nonprofit in particular. Musk alleges that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and company president Greg Brockman violated OpenAI’s charitable trust and engaged in unjust enrichment at Musk’s expense. Microsoft also allegedly aided and abetted the two in a breach of charitable trust.
