Apple could let you choose your preferred AI model in iOS 27


The next update to Apple’s operating systems may allow users to choose their preferred AI model to run Apple Intelligence. according to BloombergAccording to Mark Gurman, Apple plans to allow third-party chatbots to power system-level AI features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, all expected this fall. In addition Turn on SiriCompatible third-party AI models, called “extensions,” will now be able to power other Apple Intelligence features like writing tools and an image playground.

According to Gorman, Apple will also allow users to choose different Siri voices for different AI models — Siri responses from one Apple AI model could have one voice, while an instance of Siri running on ChatGPT could use another voice.

Users will be able to “choose from opt-in AI model providers by adding support through their App Store apps.” Once the compatible AI app is installed, users will be able to set it as their preferred AI through the Settings app. Apple is already testing integrations internally with Google and Anthropic’s AI models, Gorman says.
