Oura adds birth control support to its menstrual cycle tracker

Oura is launching a new reproductive health feature that takes hormonal contraception into account when tracking menstrual cycles. The smart ring maker describes the hormonal birth control update as a “first-of-its-kind experience” within Oura’s Cycle Insights feature, allowing users to see how more than 20 combinations of hormonal birth control methods — including pills, patches, IUDs, and implants — might affect their overall biometric data.

The feature will begin rolling out globally on May 6th. It is designed to show the effect that hormonal birth control may have on temperature, sleep, and recovery patterns, and can help users track bleeding and symptoms over time. This data can then be cross-referenced to discern how biometrics shift across hormones and hormone-free days, making it easier for women who menstruate to determine what their cycle is “normal” and to report any unexpected health concerns.
