Samsung is bringing Ikea Smart Home support to its platform, with one important caveat

New IKEA 2026 Smart home and Homeland security services I quickly got several sites on my recommendation lists, thanks High affordability (about $10) and full co-brand compatibility Standard smart home issue. The big caveat was that you need to center the material, e.g Apple TV or Echo displayto use the devices. Now that step just got easier with Samsung’s latest SmartThings expansion, which was announced on Tuesday.

Before, you needed IKEA Private manager centerabout $110, and Samsung SmartThings Hub To operate Ikea devices in the SmartThings app. Now you just need a compatible SmartThings hub that can support Ikea’s Matter devices, of which there are about 25 in total.

These include devices Smart plugsDoor entry sensors, motion sensors, temperature and air quality sensors, Smart bulbs and bulbs And much more to experience. Low costs make Ikea a particularly good choice for affordable smart home additions in apartments, dorms and first homes, with quick setup, thanks to Matter support.

You’ll need a dedicated Matter hub from SmartThings or another platform to use Ikea devices.

If this sounds interesting, there is an important note you should understand. A Galaxy phone or similar mobile device cannot act as a SmartThings hub on its own. Instead, you will need a separate center, e.g Samsung $130 Aeotec To make Ikea appliances work seamlessly with SmartThings.

When I called Samsung, a spokesperson provided me with a handy list of other SmartThings hubs that could work and save you some money. “A Samsung TV, Smart Display, Family Hub refrigerator, or Sound Bar can be a smart home hub, ready to connect and control devices without having to buy and set up another device,” Samsung told me. “For those who prefer a standalone hub, some other options include the SmartThings Station, Aeotec Smart Home Hub, Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2, and SmartThings Hub V2.”

This is good news if you’re already a fan of SmartThings and have a hub ready to use, but it’s a very expensive investment if not. Keep in mind that Ikea’s Matter devices work with other hubs provided by Amazon Alexa/Echo, Apple Homepod And new Apple TVs, Google Nest hubs And so on. If you have any of these devices in your home, IKEA sensors are still a great way to save while using home technology.
