VC Ron Conway says he has a rare form of cancer

Longtime venture capitalist Ron Conway said Friday that he was “recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.”

in Share on XConway wrote that he will “step back from some of my usual activities,” but will “continue to support” founders backed by his company SV Angel: “With a more focused and balanced schedule, I can prioritize treatments while helping SV Angel founders at turning points as we always do!”

Conway also said SV Angel would not change, as his son, Topher Conway, “has made all of our investment decisions for the better part of the last decade.” He noted that another son, Ronnie Conway, joined as managing partner in 2024.

“They bring expertise from almost every major technology cycle in Silicon Valley and are now focused on partnering with founders to build the future of AI,” Conway said.

He added that he does not reveal the “specific type of cancer” in his diagnosis because he does not want “speculation” about the diagnosis, but said he remains “optimistic.”

“I’m fortunate to have the most amazing team of UCSF doctors and, you know, I never back down from a fight,” Conway said.
