I was a fan Maria PopovaWorked for… almost as long as I can remember. Maria runs a website called Marginal, Which I started following when he was contacted Brain choices; Under both names, the site has become a fountain of things worth reading, with surprising and clever thoughts on just about everything. I spend a lot of time reading and online, and I can’t think of anyone who will show me more things that I wouldn’t have found otherwise.
Maria released a book earlier this year called passingIt’s all about how people look at, think about and account for the world around them. there a lot It happens in this book, and I think you’ll like it. I asked Maria to share her home screen, curious if she also had a more informed outlook on all things tech.
Here’s Maria’s home screen, plus some information about which apps she uses and why:
Phone: iPhone 16 – It’s still too big for me, but I had to reluctantly give it up after the last 13 smaller devices gave up Moore’s ghost.
wallpaper: The spring moon rises behind the maple leaves in the forest where I live most of the year.
Applications: Evernote, Phone, Safari. (Empty spaces It is an application that converts symbols into text.)
The usual life management tools (calendar, contact, climate) plus Evernote, which I’ve used since 2003 and which is now an Alexandria of meticulously organized information that pretty much runs my life.
I also asked Maria to share some of the things she’s interested in right now. Here’s what I sent back:

Highlight. There are a lot of good apps but I bought them Alcove – Showing the notch when I turn the volume up and down makes the giant black bar in the middle of my screen seem a little less useful. I’ve been using it too Tiny StartAnd it really is
Fast and beautiful! These two helper apps have made using my Mac as my main computer look much better than it did the last time I tried them. – The iris

You probably know this already, but I spend a lot of time snacking. Eat them. Search for them. Think about them. I long for more of them. I know I’m not alone! So I have big news: I recently brought my wife home A variety of candy from YumEarthAnd everything is excellent. It’s basically Skittles, Starbursts and Sour Patch Kids, but with more natural ingredients and less sugar. (But it’s still a lot of sugar, because it is sweet. Sugar-free candy is a lie.)
I’m always looking for a way to improve my bad habits a little, without making my life worse in the process. This one is perfect. The equivalent of Skittles is called “Giggles,” which is terrible, but delicious. So I’ll allow that. I’ll go get some now.
