During a demo to reporters this week, Robbie Stein, Google’s vice president of product for search, demonstrated a feature that opens any web page you click on in a side-by-side view using AI mode. The goal is to have a side-by-side layout to make it easier to explore similar websites, delve into details, and ask follow-up questions.
Stein used the example of looking at how the McLaren team operates Formula One The race team trains pit crews to complete pit stops at lightning speed. With Chrome’s AI mode, you can easily switch to relevant pages, and maybe even read about how McLaren holds the fastest Formula 1 track lap record with a time of just 1.80 seconds, set when driver Lando Norris made a pit stop at the Qatar Grand Prix in 2023. Chrome’s AI mode lets you not break your flow when you fall down the rabbit holes of the internet.
This new feature will open any web page you click on along with AI mode.
You can also search across Chrome tabs. To get started, you can simply select tabs and add them to your search by clicking on the Plus menu on the new tab page or the Plus menu in AI mode. Once you tap the plus button, AI mode will provide responses and suggest more locations to explore.
With this feature, you can search across multiple tabs, images, or files (such as PDF files) and include them in your searches in AI mode.
You can now search across Chrome tabs.
In the demo, Stine and Mike Torres, vice president of product for Chrome, demonstrated how this feature can be used for mid-semester study. In this case, you can combine context from your open Chrome tabs with class notes or lectures, slides, readings, and other course materials, and then seek help from there. AI Mode will then use Chrome’s tabs and materials to provide a personalized response to answer your question.
This feature is now available on Chrome desktop or mobile.
Google is also making it easier to access tools like fabrica tool for organizing plans and projects such as study guides, or creating images, which allows you to create and edit images in a few seconds in AI mode. Simply click on the new extension menu in Chrome to launch these platforms.
