Hassan Baker We were 15 minutes late for Zoom. He just got back from the gym, where he works out seven days a week, first thing in the morning, with no days off. He’s been up since five. In 45 minutes, he will begin an eight-hour live stream on Twitch. Everything is already set up, so we can chat live until he needs to switch, he told me. There is no buffer time.
Baker is a man accustomed to working under pressure, and he is fortunate that the pressure is rarely greater. To his fans –Most of them are young white menThe 34-year-old far-left commentator is a spokesman against a failing establishment. To his critics within the Democratic Party, he represents a liability protected by his “party.”Insurance jock“When he makes controversial comments about… Israel and American foreign policy. Last month, A Wall Street Journal editorial He called on Democrats to completely sever ties with him, calling him “anti-American, anti-women, anti-Western, and anti-Semitic.” like Politico saysleft in Pickle Baker. Baker has learned how to manage things with the help of his daily routine.
“Sanity in a crazy world has to be backed by strict discipline,” Baker tells WIRED. “Think about it. Death. Destruction. A dysfunctional state that won’t meet the needs of the working class. To maintain some semblance of hope, I have to maintain my sanity, and I’ve discovered that this is the way to do it.”
I talked to Baker – who did it I spoke previously With WIRED’s global managing editor Katie Drummond— about his relentless routine, his streaming setups, and his borderline obsession with Zyns.
When you wake up what is the first thing you reach for?
Unfortunately my phone. Then, my finasteride.
Are you a coffee person?
Yes. Once I finished tweeting, reading, and listening to NPR Morning editionI get out of bed and hit a double Espresso shots Go back. I take a bunch of pills. I take My creatine in the morning. I take fish oil pills because I vomit when I eat seafood. I take a bunch of multivitamins, ashwagandha, zinc, all that good stuff.
You stream for at least eight hours a day. When do you have time to eat lunch?
I eat the same lunch every day, live, usually around 3pm. It’s a pound of chicken. Straight white chicken breast and rice, either Asian or Middle Eastern chicken. I also drink a lot of cold brew while taking 3mg of Zyns. Sometimes I substitute Zyns 6 milligrams. Coffee and cinnamon are my flavors.
You often react to breaking news in real time for thousands of viewers. How do you avoid giving an immediate shot that might go bad over time?
It happens, but I try to be restrained. I have my own ideology and disciplined message about things I’ve been talking about for years, and because the problems still exist, it’s not hard to get an immediate reaction. I’ve talked about the need for gun control thousands of times at this point. So, in the wake of another horrific mass shooting, I know there are some systemic factors at play that I can talk about right away.
There are a lot of younger crowd watching you. How do you frame some of these political issues for them?
Donald Trump He made my job infinitely easier. My job is to educate people about imperialism and sometimes think about the perspective of the victims. This is not a frequently discussed part of our war machine. We talk about how wars affect us – our sons and daughters are sent abroad, they die, and we spend all our money on them, for the oil capitalists or whatever. But the focus is rarely on the actual victims on the ground and how their perspective changes over time once they realize it America and Israel It is not exactly as invested in liberating the Iranian people as it was initially presented.
