Spotify now offers the ability to disable unwanted videos


Music streaming service Spotify It is to allow listeners to separate video clips in the application. Those with free and paid plans will be able to turn off videos for music or podcasts, as well as visuals for Canvas repeats, with a new update, the company announced Thursday. Canvas refers to the short, looping video clips you watch during certain songs.

Spotify said in a statement that people who subscribe to Premium, Basic and its free service can avoid unwanted videos through a settings update, which will begin rolling out globally this month. While this upgrade is intended for all Spotify music listeners, the company is also offering a new option specifically for family plan managers starting Thursday. While previously admins could turn off videos for listeners under the age of 13 Managed accountsthey can now adjust the setting for any family plan member account.

Spotify said the new controls allow listeners to choose “to keep the audio-first experience or a richer, video-enhanced layer.”

If you turn off videos, you’ll still see video ads and canvas-like visuals in some audio ads, according to Spotify.

A Spotify representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Spotify Prices rose earlier this yearraising the premium individual subscription to $13 per month, and including recently announced features Taste profile and Promotional playlist. I haven’t been able to turn off Spotify videos yet, but here’s how the company says it will work.

  • Go to Settings On Spotify.
  • Locate Content and presentation.
  • Choose to turn looping visuals or videos on Canvas for music or podcasts on or off.
  • The preferences you choose will apply to mobile, desktop, TV, and web.
