Anthropic buys biotech startup Coefficiency Bio in $400M deal: reports

Anthropic has acquired biotech and AI startup Coefficiency Bio in a $400 million stock deal, according to The Guardian. Information and Eric is a newcomer. Sources close to the deal confirmed to TechCrunch that it had closed, though they declined to comment on the amount.

The deal comes as Anthropic continues its efforts in healthcare and life sciences, on its heels October announcement Claude Life Sciencesa tool aimed at helping scientific researchers make discoveries.

Coefficiency Bio’s founders, Samuel Stanton and Nathan C. Fry, the startup eight months ago, after both had worked in computational drug discovery at Genentech’s Prescient Design company. Coefficiency Bio has been using artificial intelligence to help make drug discovery and other forms of biological research more efficient.

The team, consisting of approximately 10 people, is expected to join Anthropic’s health and life sciences team.
