Snapchat’s “Reals” joke pokes fun at Instagram’s many scams

It’s April Fools’ Day, and Snap is using the occasion to “announce” that Snapchat’s Spotlight feed, the app’s Instagram Reels feed for short-form vertical videos, has been renamed “Reals.”

in video Snap features co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, and also includes a description of “Reals” as a place “where real people share real moments. Really.” Spiegel adds that “people feel free to be themselves and keep it real on Snapchat” (in the video’s captions, Snap capitalizes “Real”).

once again: It’s April Fool’s DaySo I think the switch to “riyals” is a joke. The number of “real” puns in Spiegel’s video seems to be a good clue, too. Just to be sure, I’ve reached out to Snap to confirm. But for now, the “reality” seems real; In the Snapchat iOS app, the feed is already renamed “Reals” for me.
