Netflix It outdid itself in April of this year in the new releases department. Not only are some fan-favorite shows like Running Point, starring Kate Hudson, and award season Darling Beef returning with new episodes this month, but we’re also getting a brand new Stranger Things series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, this month, as well as dozens of new movies and documentaries.
The biggest films hitting the platform this month include Apex, a thriller starring Charlize Theron as a woman hunted in the Australian wilderness; Noah Kahan: Out of the Body, a profile of the hugely popular singer; and the Adam Sandler-produced comedy Roommates, co-starring Sadie Sandler and Chloe East. But friends, that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what’s new on Netflix this month. Check out all the new original shows, movies, and live sports coming soon.

Untold is a brilliant sports documentary series from Netflix that highlights some of the wildest and most iconic sports stories of all time. A new set of four feature-length documentaries is now being released, starting with Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which reveals the private struggles of one of the NBA’s most famous stars. It premiered on March 31, and three more will arrive in April, including Untold: Chess Mates (April 7), about the controversial and contentious matches between chess greats Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann, Untold: Jail Blazers (April 14), which takes a look at the scandal-plagued Portland Trail Blazers of the early 2000s, and Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorn Hill (April 21) about A former Olympic equestrian athlete is accused of trying to kill one of his riding students in 2019.

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor stars in the new disaster film Thrash, coming to Netflix on April 10. The film, about a coastal community devastated by a massive storm, is actually a disaster movie and also a monster movie. Now that the city in question is flooded, they have to deal with sharks as well. The film’s cast also includes Djimon Hounsou and Whitney Beck.

Singer-songwriter (and iconic New Englander) Noah Kahan is profiled in this candid new documentary that highlights his rise to fame and showcases his life at home in Vermont with his family. Noah Kahan: Out of Body arrives on Netflix on April 13.

Roommate is a new comedy from Adam Sandler, co-starring his daughter, Sadie Sandler, and Chloe East as two college roommates whose friendship takes a turn for the worse when they live together. The cast is a group of comedic performers such as SNL star Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Janeane Garofalo, Carol Kane, and more.

The new documentary Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool is a profile of country star Wilson. It’s directed by Amy Scott, who also directed another great doc, Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately? On HBO Max, the film takes a look at Wilson’s personal journey in the music business.

Charlize Theron can’t catch a break in the new survival thriller Apex. Theron plays a grieving woman who journeys through the Australian wilderness to help move on with her life, only to find herself relentlessly stalked by a brutal serial killer. Taron Egerton and Eric Bana co-star in the film, which will be released on Netflix on April 24.

Kitty Sung Coffee (Anna Cathcart) is entering her final year of high school at her South Korean high school, KISS, and although she has her future mapped out and has a blossoming relationship with her former enemy-turned-fan, Min Ho (Sang Hyun Lee), nothing seems to go as planned. Season 3 of XO, Kitty consists of eight new episodes, all arriving on April 2.

After the first season of Beef swept the Emmys, it was announced that the series would become an anthology with an all-new cast for season two. In the new season, which will be released on April 16, Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan play a married couple, Josh and Lindsay, who have an argument witnessed by another couple they work with, Ashley and Austin, played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton. The situation unravels, especially when their billionaire boss intervenes.

Kate Hudson stars in the Netflix original series Running Point as Isla Gordon, the unlikely heiress to a Los Angeles basketball dynasty who must keep the franchise afloat. This season, Cam (Justin Theroux), Isla’s brother, is determined to take the job away from her, and she must survive his power play to keep everything she built when she took over. The second season of the series will premiere on April 23.

Set between the events of Season 2 and 3 of Stranger Things, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is a new animated series from the Duffer Brothers that features all your favorite kids from Hawkins, Indiana, dealing with new monster threats lurking in their town. The show, which will be released on April 23, also features some new characters joining Will, Eleven, Mike, and the rest of their friends.

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury returns to boxing for an in-ring showdown with Arslanbek Mahmudov on April 11. Conor “The Destroyer” Benn and Regis “Rougarou” Prograis will co-lead the event, which is broadcast live from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London at 2pm ET/11am PT. The rest of the fight card includes Jimmy Chikeva vs. Richards Riakporhi and Fraser Clark vs. Justis Honey.
