KPop Demon Hunters fans, go to McDonald’s quickly. Starting Tuesday, you can eat a meal that may seem like an April Fool’s Day joke, but isn’t. Participating McDonald’s restaurants are offering the HUNTR/X meal, named after the girl group from the Oscar-winning Netflix animated film, Demon hunters in kpopand Saja Boys Breakfast, named after the boy band in the movie.
I made it all the way to McDonald’s the first day the new meals were introduced so I could try everything.
I mean, yeah, the 3D image cards, but I think I would have preferred the KPop Demon Hunters statue. Or patterned socks, like the ones served with the Grinch’s meal.
Surprisingly, the KPop Demon Hunters stuff is pretty good! Be careful: once word gets out, it may be difficult to get a hold of. McDonald’s Grinch holiday meal They sold out quickly in some locations (too bad if you wanted the adorable pair of Grinch-themed socks that came with them), so don’t wait for this limited edition listing.
Shake up the fries, and skip the deviled sauce
the Hunter/X mealnamed after the K-pop girl group Demon Hunters, is a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meal that includes a medium drink and three special menu items.
The topping is one I seasoned with ramyun seasoning, while the other is just a regular fried piece from McDonald’s. I was surprised by how much I liked the seasoning!
Ramyun MacShaker Potatoes It comes with a small bag of soy, garlic, sesame and spice seasoning, plus regular McDonald’s fries. You sprinkle the seasoning into the included bag, dump it into your French fries, shake it all up and eat.
McDonald’s doesn’t skimp on the amount of fried condiments it offers you.
My take: McDonald’s fries are legendary, and frankly, I didn’t want to season them and risk ruining the taste. And here’s the shock: I loved it. They give you too much seasoning, and the fries get thickly coated, which I thought would be a nightmare. But it was a salty, delicious delight. There’s no meat in the marinade, but it reminded me of a layer of fried chicken – flavorful and rich.
The meal includes two new sauces for french fries and nuggets. Hunter sauce It is a sweet chili sauce that blends chili peppers, garlic, and pepper. If you’ve been familiar with McDonald’s sweet and sour sauce for a long time, this reminds me of that, with just a touch of heat.
You can order one of KPop Demon Hunters’ sauces. Hunter’s sauce is better than Amazing Purple Devil’s Sauce, in my humble opinion.
The other new sauce is… devil sauce, Mustard sauce with some heat and a deep purple color. There is not enough dark purple food. But even though the color was gorgeous, I ended up scraping the Hunter’s sauce cup almost empty, leaving most of the purple devil’s sauce behind. I appreciate the wasabi flavor of the mustard almost but not quite, but I wouldn’t order this sauce again.
Look! My McNugget is wearing a purple wig! The best thing about Devil’s Sauce is the deep purple color, not the hot mustard sauce itself.
You can try both sauces at no additional charge. I ordered via the app and just chose one of each of the new sauces.
Ramyun McShaker fries come with a small bag of soy, garlic, sesame and spice seasoning that customers sprinkle into the bag with the fries and shake before eating.
There is also a new dessert, which is… Derby McFlurrywhich blends smooth, creamy vanilla with raspberry-flavored boba pearls and a swirl of cranberry sauce. McDonald’s named him after the supernatural cat, Derby Tiger, from the KPop movie Demon Hunters.
You know all the jokes about how the ice cream machine at McDonald’s is always broken? I tried ordering a Derpy McFlurry from my local McDonald’s, but the app said it was out of stock. I don’t know if this location’s ice cream machine was actually broken or if they didn’t get their shipment of popping pearls, but this is America: There was another McDonald’s less than a mile away that served dessert.
My McFlurry was kind of melted when I got home because the McDonald’s closest to my house didn’t have it. Insert your favorite “McDonald’s eternally broken ice cream machine” joke here.
I’m glad they did! Although I’m not a fan of berries in ice cream, the thick, light-serve sauce and cranberry sauce (raspberry? raspberry? both? I can’t say that) were a smooth and sweet combination. It was fun to pop the boba pearls inside my mouth too, though be careful, they leave behind a bit of… boba skin?
Derpy McFlurry blends smooth, creamy vanilla with raspberry pearls.
If breakfast is your bag, the new morning meal is the one Saja Boys Breakfast.

I didn’t get a chance to tell my husband what was in the sandwich when he swooped into the kitchen while on a business call and took a bite. He widened his eyes and waved his mouth in the universal signal of “Hot!”
At first, I thought he was exaggerating, but then I took a second bite, and the orange pepper sauce He is hot. It’s also too sweet for my taste, and I won’t be reordering this. Without the sauce, breakfast is just an Egg McMuffin.
The Spicy Saga McMuffin is a sausage McMuffin with eggs, topped with peppercorn sauce.
Both meals come with a photo card of one of the teams and a derby card. My breakfast included a card with a photo of Gino, and my lunch included a photo of Zoe. Each meal also includes a Derpy Card which contains a picture of the Derpy Tiger and a QR code which, for some reason, I found very difficult to scan. When I finally did, he took me to the McDonald’s app on my phone and asked for the code on the card. Then he didn’t really do anything.
A McDonald’s representative told me that this is by design: Entering the code means I’ll unlock content that won’t appear until April 26 and will reveal “the winner of McDonald’s ultimate battle for the masses.” So, I got what’s going on for me.
Devil’s Sauce is a bold mustard sauce with heat and tang — and best of all, it’s bright purple.
The full KPop Demon Hunters roster should be available at participating McDonald’s locations now, and while I’ve pushed McDonald’s representatives to specify a specific end date, it’s only “while supplies last.”
Hunter’s Sauce is a sweet chili sauce that blends cayenne pepper, garlic, and pepper.
My Final Opinion: KPop Demon Hunters fans will enjoy the meals, although if they’re kids, they might want a smaller Happy Meal-style option. Ten McNuggets and fries is a lot, and the Spicy Egg McMuffin probably isn’t for everyone. I tried ordering a mini version of the Derpy McFlurry, but it was unavailable in my app, and the regular version was enormous.
If you want to try the meals, I highly recommend the fries with ramyun seasoning, Hunter sauce, and the Derby McFlurry with satisfying boba (share with a friend if you have a small appetite or if, like me, you browse the entire KPop Demon Hunter menu). I’ll give a pass for the Devil’s Sauce and Spicy Saga McMuffin.
It’s also unfortunate that the only extras in the meals (besides the colorful Happy Meal-themed boxes) were shiny 3D photo cards and a code for online content that was still a month away. No collectible figurines or even Grinch-themed patterned socks? This has hit a bit of a chord at this music festival.
