Samsung has finally made blood pressure monitoring available to Galaxy Watch owners in the US… sort of. Starting Tuesday, the feature, which is already available in other countries, will be rolled out to older models as well as the current model Galaxy Watch 8 series. But it won’t be as simple as updating your data Smart watch And press a button.
For starters, you’ll need to have (or buy) a traditional blood pressure cuff on your upper arm to calibrate the feature on your smartwatch. You will have to download a separate app, the Samsung Health Monitor app, to your smartphone. Then you will have to recalibrate using the cuff every 28 days to ensure accurate readings.
In other words – a blood pressure monitor requires a blood pressure monitor to work.
Samsung first introduced blood pressure monitoring on its watches in 2020, and gradually rolled it out to other countries, but regulatory hurdles prevented it from being able to be used in the United States.
Unlike Samsung’s EKG and sleep apnea detection features (both of which are FDA-cleared), the blood pressure feature has not received FDA approval and is intended for health purposes only. This means that it is not a diagnostic tool and should not be used to identify or treat high blood pressure. Readings are also on-demand only, so you have to take them manually via the watch rather than having them automatically done in the background.
That last part may change. Samsung’s announcement also noted that monitoring of the negative blood pressure trend will be coming later this year.

Apple made its debut High blood pressure alerts cleared by the FDA. In Apple Watch models newer than September 2025, which passively monitors and alerts owners when it detects signs of high blood pressure. Oura and other wearables companies are working toward similar features through long-term data trends, though true on-demand blood pressure readings remain elusive for most mainstream consumer smartwatches.
Blood pressure feature compatible with Galaxy Watch 4 It will only work on watches paired with a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 12 or higher. It will not be available on other Android phones or on Samsung Galaxy Fit track. And even if you check all of these boxes, you may not get it right away. Samsung says it will roll out the feature in phases.
If you have access (and a cuff at your fingertips), setup is fairly straightforward. Once your watch is connected to your phone, download the Samsung Health Monitor app, enable blood pressure tracking and follow the calibration steps while using the upper arm cuff. Just know that you’ll need this cuff close by anytime you want to keep your readings accurate.
