This modular manufacturing machine can create custom t-shirts, phone cases, and molds

xTool, a well-known company among manufacturers of laser-based cutting and engraving tools, has announced a new release A multi-function drafting machine called WonderPress. It’s not an all-in-one device that can help you launch an Etsy shop, but the WonderPress can help convert designs from other devices, such as Crickets or sublimation printers, into finished products ready for sale.

WonderPress is available for pre-order now with a $10 deposit and an early bird discount that brings its price down from $399 to $279. This product is an alternative to machines like the Cricut EasyPress that use heat and manual pressure to transfer iron-on or sublimation prints onto t-shirts, pillowcases or fabric bags. WonderPress’s virtual heat press applies up to 220 pounds of pressure to its flat surface with the ability to automate its temperature and timing through presets for different materials.

xTool will offer two additional replacement modules for WonderPress, but has not announced their pricing yet. Most interesting is the 3D model module that uses vacuum and heat to wrap 2D printed designs around 3D objects. You can use it to customize smartphone cases and keycaps, for example, but the unit functions as a vacuum forming machine. Insert an object, such as one created by a 3D printer, and WonderPress can make molds or a plastic duplicate.

A craft kiln unit can be a safer, albeit smaller, alternative to using a kitchen kiln as a craft tool. It can be used to shrink plastic, bend or shape acrylic, harden clay or prepare direct-to-film (DTF) prints as the adhesive powder needs to cure before it can be applied to fabrics. The WonderPress oven unit provides better control of applied heat and also includes xTool’s three-layer composite H13 HEPA filter to trap particles and odors.
