I was a Late conversion to Air fryerspartly because I was concerned about variety: How many wings, nuggets, and fries does anyone need? (Do not answer. Answering will incriminate you.)
the T4 Dome 2 It’s the air fryer that has conquered that worry, adding pizza, browned meats, grilled asparagus and toast to that list, not to mention the perfect crispy bacon. It is an innovative device that takes over most of the functions of a classic auxiliary oven, but with a much stronger convection.
After testing over 30 air fryers over the past year, the Dome 2 is the one I highly recommend as the most powerful, versatile, precise, and fast air fryer I know of. I’ve evangelized about this thing since I first tried it last year. But the big caveat is always the price: It’s listed at $500 and rarely drops much below $400.
So imagine my surprise when I saw the Dome 2 drop to $340 in Amazon’s spring sales, the lowest I’ve seen it since Black Friday. If you’re looking to upgrade your old air fryer, now is probably the time. The sale continues until March 31.
So why is the Dome 2 air fryer my favorite? Typhur, a technology-forward company based in San Francisco but with engineering and manufacturing ties to China, has reimagined the form and function of the classic basket fryer by creating a wider, shallower basket, with dual, individually controllable heating elements.
This means the Dome 2 has room for freezer pizza, and can apply direct heat from below to add actual char spots and crispiness to the crust, like a combination rotisserie oven. The Dome’s shallow basket also allows you to distribute ingredients in a single layer for excellent airflow, with heating from both sides. I can carve up twenty wings in just 14 minutes (or 17 minutes if I deep-fry). The dome also toasts bread more evenly and cuts bacon without smelling like home—partly because it has a handy self-cleaning function.
Temperature accuracy is within 5 or 10 degrees of target, and the fan can adjust its speed depending on the cooking mode. And the smartphone app is already useful, with around 50 recipes ranging from asparagus to éclairs to roast London steak that can be synced with the push of a button. But note that some functions, like baking, need the app to work, and the device is more of a counter-hog than fryers with a taller basket.
However, the Dome 2 basket is a bit too shallow for a whole bird or large roast. If you want a convection device for larger meats, I often recommend the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, which is one of my go-tos Favorite convection toaster ovens. This is a (very) smart oven and air fryer that not only cuts wings and French fries like basket fryers, but is more versatile for roasting larger proteins like a whole chicken. Breville is also having a good sale right now, down 20 percent.
