The new Govee outdoor smart bulb series lets you customize each bulb

Govee has a new range of outdoor smart lights that will bring the party to your backyard. The smart home appliance company says its series of outdoor colored lights is the first of its kind, with a gradient look and special effects for each individual bulb.

How do outdoor color string lights work?

You can control lights, gradients, and special effects on your smart device through the Govee app Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The string lights also work with other Govee devices for ecosystem integration.

Govee lights can be attached to stakes or poles. The lights are fully customizable using their own in-app assembly coding technology. You’ll be able to select the color hue for each bulb, and set up color transitions and animations as well.

How is each bulb customized?

Govee uses some effects to achieve this. The lights feature what Govee calls “advanced light engineering” and a dual coating to create a gradient effect with clarity and richness of color. These filament lights also feature independent Uni-IC control, which helps create multiple color gradations in each bulb.

Each bulb has 55 RGB LEDs, up to 240 lumens of white light and up to three cycling effects, such as switching between red, green and holiday white. They also have over 100 preset scenes and 12 interactive sound modes, so they can change colors to the music you’re playing.

Are these smart outdoor lights weatherproof?

Govee outdoor lights can remain on all year round and feature IP67 rated protection, making them water and UV resistant. Joffe says the lights have a lifespan of more than 10 years under “typical outdoor conditions,” according to Monday’s announcement.

All of these features prompted Tyler LaComa, CNET’s Home Tech editor, to say these lights are an interesting option for long-term patio setups, especially since Govee lights are reliable, he says.

“The highlight is that these light fixtures are very large and very sturdy,” Lakoma says. “They come with an IP67 weather resistance rating and are designed to be permanent fixtures that will last for at least 10 years – this helps explain the high price.”

How much are outdoor chromatic string lights?

The Govee Chromatic String Lights are now available Subterranean site and Amazon. Lights cost $170 for more than 32 feet, and $300 for 65 feet. The lights are 3.76 inches long and 2.48 inches wide.
