This stylish alarm clock uses lights and sounds to help you fall asleep, focus and wake up

Made from a single block of aluminum, the watch is about four inches long including the carrying ring and control dial and weighs about 260 grams. Its lighting system, which the company calls Light Hour, features glowing numbers representing 12 hours with minutes and seconds displayed as a concentric ring of tick marks. Animation is used to show the passage of time. The watch is currently available in Japan for 59,400 yen, or about $375 USD, but the company has not announced plans to make it available internationally yet.

The alarm clock was designed by Balmuda founder General Terao, who wanted to help with sleeping through the night. He needed an alternative to playing rain sounds on a bright, distracting tablet. This desire led to three basic functions of the watch. There’s a Relax Time mode that plays one of several original recordings that include sounds like falling rain, a fireplace, and a babbling river. These sounds are also used in clock alarms, which start playing quietly three minutes before a pre-set wake-up time, then gradually get louder to ensure you don’t miss them.

There’s a Focus mode, which can be set from 1 minute to 60 minutes, which plays white noise through the watch’s stereo speakers to help reduce distractions. There’s also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to connect to the mobile app which makes it easy to program and customize the watch. However, battery life is expected to max out at just 24 hours of continuous use. Having to charge the alarm clock next to your bed every day can be difficult.
