Apple’s update frees families from sharing just one payment option

Finally, there’s a bit of financial flexibility with the Apple Family Sharing plan. Apple iOS 26.4 The update will not be available to everyone iPhone users Until March 25, but the release notes include a welcome change. Family group members will no longer be linked to just one group Payment option.

An Apple representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

You can see the change In the new payment details from Apple. In the past, Family Sharing allowed you to add people to one group (up to six people) so they could share content they’d purchased. But with purchase sharing turned on, everyone in the group was required to use the individual payment method chosen by the family organizer.

This causes many headaches. Family organizers rarely want to be asked to obtain permission or vet purchases for members they already trust. Some family members have resorted to using Venmo to pay each other, or purchasing Apple gift cards and loading them into the account to pay that way.

iOS 26.4 removes this hassle.

Soon, adult family members can become part of Family Sharing and use the individual payment methods they’ve saved, perhaps in their own accounts Apple walletwithout the need for any alternative solutions.

Note that this only applies to adult members, so you can still monitor children’s purchases.

The change in payment methods is just one Of the changes that Apple is bringing to iOS. Other updates include the ability to change the iPhone’s Liquid Glass design and removing the alert slider.
