For most For us, office space is at a premium. Between your computer, keyboard, speakers, and maybe some photos of your family or your Wi-Fi node, things can feel a little cramped quickly. Desk mounted accessories make your workspace look better. Mounted desk accessories are perfect for standing desks because everything stays firmly in place as you raise and lower your posture. Even if you remain seated, these devices can remove some clutter from your desktop, and perhaps clear your mind a little by giving yourself some space to focus. As a dedicated installer, approaching three decades of working at the desk, I’ve tried every desk-mounted accessory I can get my hands on. I have a few favorite devices that I’ll share below.
Before you purchase any desk-mounted accessory, be sure to measure your desk and determine a suitable location for the clip. Don’t assume it will fit, since they all have a range of thicknesses, and some desks don’t work well with clips. There is also a risk that the clip will discolour or leave a mark on your desk surface over time, especially if it is softwood or in direct sunlight.
Number one on the list of desk mounted accessories is monitor arms. With no stand needed, you free up a lot of space, and the monitor arms enable you to hold your monitor at the perfect height and position, making it easy to adjust the angle if you need to. I’m a fan Dual screen setup With a wide screen in landscape orientation and a portrait screen on the left it’s perfect for my workflow.
I like Ergotron monitor mounts because they are very sturdy, yet allow a wide range of motion to position your monitor in the right place (The top of your screen should be at eye level and your screen should be about arm’s length away). I use the LX Pro alongside older devices Ergotron LX ($189)which has a wider base and can bear more weight. What I like most, compared to other monitor arms I’ve tried, is that my monitor stays properly fixed once in place. With some arms, the slightest hit on your desk will make your screen shake.
While a dog may be content to curl up at your feet, cats love to be on top. My cat is always jumping on my desk, walking in front of the screen, and scratching the back of my chair. They also love nothing more than stealing my warm seat when I get up to get coffee. But there is a cat solution to the pet problem.
