Gemini task automation is here and it’s wild

A few weeks ago, Google and Samsung have announced a major development in Gemini Coming to their latest device: task automation. From food delivery and ride-sharing apps, Gemini will be able to use certain apps on your behalf in a virtual window to handle things like ordering dinner or getting a car to the airport — all based on simple prompts. you know, All the things they promised us For years AI assistants will be able to do this. This feature didn’t exist when I first started testing the S26 Ultra, but it has just arrived in beta as part of an update. It’s strange to watch your phone using itself!

The first prompt I made was pretty simple: Order an Uber to the airport. Gemini asked for clarification on the airport selection (a good question to ask!) and as promised, the system stopped before the final step and asked me to review the details before placing the car order.

A vague, slightly more complicated request to order a coffee and a croissant required a little more input from me — and a lot of time on Jiminy’s part scrolling through Starbucks’ hot drink options — but he sure enough found the flat white on the menu. She was also faced with a crucial decision: Should she order the chocolate croissant hot, or straight from the pastry case? Without my input, you determined (correctly) that the pastry should be reheated. That’s pretty impressive for an assistant who just a year ago was arguing with me about trip details on my calendar.

I have more testing to do with this automation feature and plan to spend the next few days throwing some curveballs at it. However, it’s impressive to see this feature working as intended – so far, at least.
