Honda has canceled three electric cars it was developing for the US market, blaming tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump and increased competition from Chinese electric car companies.
Honda said Thursday that Trump’s tariffs have hurt the company’s gas and hybrid vehicle businesses, putting its overall auto business in an “extremely difficult earnings situation.”
Combined with the “inability to respond flexibly” to competition from China and slowing growth in the US market, the company said it decided to cancel the Honda 0 SUV and 0 Saloon, which It was first shown at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show. The Acura RSX electric car has also been cancelled.
The Japanese automaker said it would “reevaluate its resource allocations and enhance its hybrid models” in the US market. The company warned that all these changes could cost Honda up to $15.7 billion.
Honda joins an increasingly long list of legacy automakers that have withdrawn plans for electric vehicles they had planned to sell in the United States.
